In today’s Punjab, public health is adversely affected by all forms of waste: from its generation to its disposal. According to the Central Pollution and Control Board’s annual report, if not addressed, the daily waste generated in the state of Punjab is expected to rise by almost 128% by 2041. Understandably, what it leads to is the catastrophic erosion of public health and safety.
In-sync with the state government’s adopted decentralized waste management method, RoundGlass Foundation’s Waste Management initiative is helping rural communities to adopt and implement effective systems. The primary goal of this initiative is reducing and eliminating adverse impacts of waste materials on people’s health and the environment - improving quality of life.
Waste Management implementation mobilizes, educates, and engages the community to adopt and maintain accessible and well utilized solid waste processing system.
Continuous awareness building within communities to improve knowledge, participation, and attitudes towards sustained ecology and waste management.
Identify and involve community champions for adoption, build and maintain composting facility, set-up street cleaning, and garbage collection system.
Analyze, monitor, and continuously optimize the process, outcome, community adherence, and participation for “Zero Waste” targets.
Waste management initiative gives the community a chance to come together in creating a healthier and cleaner environment for all.
Encouraging organic farming for farmers to build new skills and economic sustainability while improving population health outcomes, and enhanced fertility and resilience of the land.
Restoring Punjab’s ecological balance through plantation drives and afforestation with indigenous plant species.
Creating self-learning environments within academic settings where children train themselves to solve problems using the internet.
Instrumenting improvements in rural women's physical and mental outcomes by building awareness, knowledge and decision-making abilities - breaking the transgenerational cycles of bias.
